How You Can Help...

A Lover of Nature Photography

Adrienne Joyce Allen, teacher, counselor and artist was a dedicated physical education teacher for 32 years in the West Hartford Public School System. She taught the children in her classroom the need to be conscious of their health from an early age and to take responsibility for themselves physically through a variety of activities. She received several awards from professional societies and organizations, including being chosen as Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year. Adrienne was an amateur photographer, who loved taking pictures of nature. Photography and travel provided her with a sense of spirit. She left her estate to many worthy causes including a bequest to the McLean Game Refuge, which was the perfect place to blend her love of nature and physical activity.

Allen was a wonderful example of Senator’s McLean’s goal that the Game Refuge would be a place “where some of the things God made may be seen by those who love them as I have loved them and who may find in them the peace of mind and body I have found.” Ms. Allen’s bequest continues the legacy of Senator McLean and was used toward the Reynold’s Preserve which expanded the Game Refuge to 4,410 acres.
