Board Resolution:
Resolution to endorse
LEAVE A LEGACY CONNECTICUT,
a statewide public awareness effort to promote charitable giving through
wills and estate plans. We encourage people from all walks of life to
consider leaving a bequest to their favorite charities, and we provide
them with information to facilitate the process.
WHEREAS, Connecticut residents are an extraordinarily generous group of people, with more than 89 percent of households making charitable contributions annually; and
WHEREAS, it is estimated that 60 percent of people leaving estates have not written a will and therefore have made no provision for charities that may have been important to them; and
WHEREAS, non-profit organization sprovide essential services to our communities. Such as housing the homeless, supporting the arts, preserving and enhancing the environment. Conducting research on deadly diseases, protecting the elderly, helping people wiht disabilities live independently and empowering residents to lead dignified lives; and
WHEREAS, giving through bequests allow each of us to foster and perpetuate the values and ideals most important to us, to honor and thank those charitable organizations which have made a difference in our lives and to make a difference in the lives that follow; and
WHEREAS, since 1999, more that 740 non-profit organizations have been engaged in a statewide collaborative effort with allied progrssional and community leaders calle LEAVE A LEGACY ® CONNECTICUT, which has a goal of encouraging estate gifts to charity that enable the entire non-profit sector to continue to server local communities and sustain the quality of life that makes our communities sppealing places to live, work, and raise families; now
THEREFORE, (name of organization) endorses the
LEAVE A LEGACY CONNECTICUT
program and will participate in efforts to educate and promote the idea of
giving through bequests and estate plans. It is our goal that increased
awareness of and interest in charitable planning opportunities will
result, as well as establishing a social norm for charitable estate
planning.
